From the Washington Examiner: Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) defended Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) from the Trump administration’s “frivolous” investigation into him on Tuesday, saying he and other Democrats were “rightfully” telling U.S. service members they can reject illegal orders.
Kelly is one of six Democratic veterans who appeared in a video encouraging service members to refuse illegal orders. He is now facing a “thorough review” from the Department of War over “serious allegations of misconduct.” None of the six Democrats in the video specified any illegal orders President Donald Trump has given, prompting scrutiny from some.
Murkowski came to Kelly’s aid on X, saying he “valiantly” served as a U.S. Navy aviator and as a NASA astronaut.
“To accuse him and other lawmakers of treason and sedition for rightfully pointing out that servicemembers can refuse illegal orders is reckless and flat-out wrong. The Department of Defense and FBI surely have more important priorities than this frivolous investigation,” Murkowski said on X.
Senator Kelly valiantly served our country as an aviator in the U.S. Navy before later completing four space shuttle missions as a NASA astronaut. To accuse him and other lawmakers of treason and sedition for rightfully pointing out that servicemembers can refuse illegal orders…

Multiple military veterans are blasting Murkowski.

I was there wearing my uniform getting ready to board a jet for Afghanistan in 2011 when you gave a speech at my unit’s deployment ceremony. Remember what you told us? I do. “If you need anything, just call Lisa.”
We knew better. The only thing my colleagues and I were confident of is that you couldn’t care less about any of us.
But since you have time to call Mark Kelly a hero, let me ask how heroic he was in helping to keep the government shut down, leaving it to private philanthropy to pay the troops. Where were you then @lisamurkowski?
Where were you when our fallen returned in coffins? Where were you when our brigade suffered an incompetent commander who did all he could to break the brigade’s morale? No one called you, because we knew that your words were cheap. They still are.
