In a post on X, former United States Air Force pilot Buzz Patterson slammed the actions of the Sedition Six, a group of six U.S. lawmakers who posted messages that are being labeled “seditious.”

The video features five Democrats, Senator Mark Kelly and Representatives Chris DeLuzio, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan, and Jason Crow. It was shared by Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, also a Democrat.

In the video, the lawmakers explain that they served in the military or intelligence communities, and they take turns delivering a message to active members of these communities.

“This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens,” the video says. “Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this constitution. Right now, the threats coming to our constitution aren’t just coming from abroad but from right here at home.”

Kelly, who served in the Navy, says, “Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders.”

Asked later which unlawful orders have been given, Sen. Slotkin admitted on Sunday that she was “not aware” of any illegal order that had been given to U.S. Military service members.

President Donald J. Trump reacted on Thursday and accused the lawmakers of “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL” in one of a series of Truth Social posts on the subject.

“Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL,” he continued. “Their words cannot be allowed to stand.

“An example MUST BE SET.”

He also shared someone else’s post that read: “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!”

The media and Democrats erupted, calling the language dangerous. Trump later told Fox News in a radio interview on Friday: “I’m not threatening death, but I think they’re in serious trouble.”

“If you look at sedition, that’s a form of, a very strong form of being a traitor. It’s a terrible thing to say, I must tell you,” Trump explained.

He also suggested that the US defense secretary and deputy attorney general would look into the matter.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt pointed to Sen. Kelly in comments on his behavior, saying, “I think what Senator Mark Kelly was actually trying to do was INTIMIDATE the 1.3 million active duty service members.”

The Department of War released an official statement on the matter, saying, “The Department of War has received serious allegations of misconduct against Captain Mark Kelly, USN (Ret.). In accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 688, and other applicable regulations, a thorough review of these allegations has been initiated to determine further actions, which may include recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings or administrative measures.” (Read the full statement below.)

In his post on X, Lieutenant Colonel Robert “Buzz” Patterson, United States Air Force (Ret.), wrote, “As a career Air Force veteran, combat pilot, and former Air Force Military Aide to President Bill Clinton, my personal statement about Democrats and the Sedition Six.”

In the included video, Patterson said that he was “appalled” by the lawmaker’s video, as they were using their positions to “undercut the command of President Donald J. Trump” and were “circumventing the chain of command.”

“They undercut the underpinnings of the military, which is good order and faith and trust in their leadership,” he said.

He warned that the video could lead to dangerous actions by military members, including ruining their careers and death.

Patterson also said the lawmakers had violated their oath of office and that he hopes Secretary of War Pete Hegseth prosecutes them.

Patterson “served 20 years as a pilot on active duty in the United States Air Force and saw tours of duty world-wide, including combat operations in Grenada, Somalia, Rwanda, Haiti, and Bosnia,” according to the Young Americans Foundation. “From 1996 to 1998, Colonel Patterson was the Senior Military Aide to President Bill Clinton. During that time he was responsible for the President’s Emergency Satchel, otherwise known as the ‘Nuclear Football,’ the black bag with the nation’s nuclear capability that accompanies the president at all times. In addition, Colonel Patterson was operational commander for all military units assigned to the White House, which included Air Force One, Marine One, Camp David, White House Transportation Agency and White House Mess.”

The Department of War’s official statement on the Kelly:

The Department of War has received serious allegations of misconduct against Captain Mark Kelly, USN (Ret.). In accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. § 688, and other applicable regulations, a thorough review of these allegations has been initiated to determine further actions, which may include recall to active duty for court-martial proceedings or administrative measures. This matter will be handled in compliance with military law, ensuring due process and impartiality. Further official comments will be limited, to preserve the integrity of the proceedings.

The Department of War reminds all individuals that military retirees remain subject to the UCMJ for applicable offenses, and federal laws such as 18 U.S.C. § 2387 prohibit actions intended to interfere with the loyalty, morale, or good order and discipline of the armed forces. Any violations will be addressed through appropriate legal channels.

All servicemembers are reminded that they have a legal obligation under the UCMJ to obey lawful orders and that orders are presumed to be lawful. A servicemember’s personal philosophy does not justify or excuse the disobedience of an otherwise lawful order.
