FROM DAILY MAIL: Volodymyr Zelensky has sent his gratitude to a fuming Donald Trump following his proposed peace plan for ending the war in Ukraine as the EU presents a counter-proposal containing key differences.
Following talks on Sunday in Geneva between the Ukrainian and US delegations, the president of the war-torn country took to X to share his appreciation for the swathe of countries working towards peace for Ukraine. It came after Trump today accused Ukraine of showing ‘zero gratitude’ over his 28-point proposal.
Zelensky said Ukraine is ‘grateful to the United States, to every American heart, and personally to REPORTPresident Trump for the assistance’, while also thanking those in Europe and the G20 who are providing assistance.
Zelensky also said, “It is important not to forget the main goal – to stop Russia’s war and prevent it from ever igniting again. And to achieve that, peace must be dignified.”
He said the fight was not just about territory for Russia, but about their “right to wage war” and to “subjugate.”
“That is why we work so carefully on every point, on every step toward peace. Everything must work out the right way – so that this war is truly ended and so that it does not happen again.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump have both confirmed that peace talks are going well and that progress is being made.
Rubio also praised the Ukrainian attitude towards the peace talks.
