Proverbs 3:3-6
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
[King James version]
Anything and everything we may ever posses in this life will someday either wear out, be taken from us, or we will have to let it go. It’s all just “stuff” that is temporary, and meaningless when our time here on earth is over and we go on to something so much better.
However, the verses above are a beautiful reminder that what is really important is what we allow God to write upon our hearts. That is what no one can ever take from us, and that is what will keep us through every experience, great or small.
This scripture also paints a vivid, intimate picture of our walk with God: trusting Him with all our heart, and acknowledging Him in all our ways. In every decision, at every turn in the road, the Lord will direct our path and lead us where He needs us.
Having God’s truth engraved on our heart is like our own built-in compass and flashlight, only the batteries will never die!
“Dear Heavenly Father, help us to keep a soft heart that You can engrave your Word upon, and write your Truth and Mercy within. Tell us again the story of Jesus, and write the story of His love and sacrifice on our hearts, so we never forget that He has paid the price for our soul and we are redeemed and cleansed from our sins. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.”
