When I Go to Be Withd Jesus

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

John 14:3 (NIV)

The moving truck idles outside, boxes tower in the hallway, and the old house echoes with goodbyes. Change is hard. Yet in the middle of the chaos stands a promise: a new home is waiting.

Jesus spoke these words to disciples whose world was about to shatter. Their Rabbi, their Friend, was leaving. But He didn’t leave them with emptiness—He left them with an address.“I go to prepare a place for you.”

Not a temporary fix, not a patched-up apartment, but a custom-designed dwelling in the Father’s house. Jesus isn’t squeezing us into heaven’s spare bedroom; He’s crafting space where we belong—fully known, fully welcomed, fully home.

“I will come back and take you.”
The same Jesus who ascended will descend. No abandoned promise, no forgotten reservation. The One who conquered death keeps His travel itinerary. One day the sky will split, the trumpet will sound, and the moving truck of glory will arrive. We won’t pack a single box; He’ll carry us Himself.

“That you also may be where I am.”
This is the heartbeat of the promise: presence. We will see His face. The tears that streaked our cheeks in the midnight hours? Wiped away. The cancer, the divorce, the empty chair at Thanksgiving—gone. The sin that tangled our hearts—untangled forever. And the joy? It won’t be a refurbished version of earthly happiness; it will be the undiluted, overflowing, better-than-we-can-imagine kind.

Today, when frustration rises, whisper: “This isn’t home. Something better is coming.” Let that anticipation steady you.

Then do one small act of heaven on earth—forgive quickly, love generously, hope stubbornly. The Father’s house is filling up, one prepared heart at a time.

Lord Jesus, thank You for going ahead of me. While I navigate today’s boxes and breakdowns, keep my eyes on the home You’re building. Grow my faith through every inconvenience, every heartache. Remind me that this address is temporary, but Your promise is eternal. I can’t wait to see the place—and to see You. Come soon, Lord. Amen.
