From the Daily MailA Michigan man who had a history of public service and had long dreamed of becoming a politician died just moments after voters elected him to serve.

Greg Ouellette, 69, who won a seat on the Auburn Hills City Council in the Detroit suburbs, suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after polls closed on Tuesday, his widow confirmed with Fox 2 Detroit

He was pronounced dead that evening, the city confirmed in a press release

Ouellette had received 1,278 votes, or 15.15 percent of the total, securing the fourth-highest vote count among six candidates vying for four open seats.

‘It was Greg’s lifelong dream to be a member of the City Council,’ his wife Jeanne said in a statement released by the city. ‘I believe that somehow Greg was able to know that he won that election on Tuesday.’

Ouellette had previously made an unsuccessful run for the city council position in 2023, but had told friends he had a good feeling about his chances this time.
