Resisting Sin, Part 1: Seeking God’s Strength Through Prayer
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
-Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
-Matthew 26:41 (NIV)
Sin often strikes when we feel strongest in our own resolve, yet it is in our weakness that temptation finds its foothold.
Prayer is not a ritual of self-improvement. It’s a lifeline to the One who has already overcome the world. When we seek God’s strength, we trade our fragile willpower for His infinite power.
This is not passive waiting but active dependence—crying out before the battle, not just in the aftermath of defeat.
Set a specific time today—maybe during a drive or while enjoying your coffee—to pray proactively against a known area of temptation. Name the sin, confess your weakness, and ask for God’s strength to stand firm.
Father, I confess that my heart is prone to wander and my flesh is weak. Fill me with Your Spirit. When temptation whispers, let my first instinct be to run to You in prayer. Teach me to pray without ceasing — not as a last resort, but as my first defense. In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN.
