NEWS ALERT: Trump posts fierce, all-caps warning about Tylenol

In an all-caps message, President Donald Trump doubled down on his warning about the usage of Tylenol Sunday afternoon.

The president posted the following statement on Truth Social:

Pregnant Women, DON’T USE TYLENOL UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, DON’T GIVE TYLENOL TO YOUR YOUNG CHILD FOR VIRTUALLY ANY REASON, BREAK UP THE MMR SHOT INTO THREE TOTALLY SEPARATE SHOTS (NOT MIXED!), TAKE CHICKEN P SHOT SEPARATELY, TAKE HEPATITAS B SHOT AT 12 YEARS OLD, OR OLDER,

AND, IMPORTANTLY, TAKE VACCINE IN 5 SEPARATE MEDICAL VISITS! President DJT

Trump was reacting to a Daily Caller report published last week, titled, “FDA Stayed Silent As Internal Reports About Potential Tylenol Risks Piled Up.”

The Daily Caller report begins:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defied the advice of its own drug safety experts to warn pregnant women about Tylenol for nearly a decade, internal reports and presentations obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation reveal.

FDA rank-and-file scientists repeatedly recommended the agency release information about Tylenol in pregnancy across three scientific reviews conducted in 201620192022 and two memos, one from the FDA’s maternal health division in 2016 and one from the FDA’s urological health division in 2017.

Daily Caller reporter Emily Kopp shared the following details in a series of posts on X:

SCOOP: FDA scientists first began recommending warning pregnant women about Tylenol nine years ago.

But FDA officials like Janet Woodcock, who oversaw the approval of OxyContin, bucked the recommendation to warn the public about another painkiller, internal docs show. 🧵

FDA internal reports spanning a decade recommend issuing a nuanced communication to pregnant women about the scientific studies indicating an association between Tylenol and neurological and hormonal harms.

FDA leaders declined to act.

April 7, 2016: FDA’s Pediatric and Maternal Health Division recommended issuing a cautious statement about potential risks while noting that fever poses its own risks. FDA higher-ups did not follow this recommendation.

October 14, 2016: FDA Senior Medical Officer Andrew Mosholder recommended that the FDA issue a nuanced warning: Tylenol in pregnancy could cause neurological harm and the drug should be used sparingly, but Tylenol will sometimes be necessary to reduce fever. FDA higher-ups did not follow this recommendation.

January 12, 2017: FDA’s Division of Bone, Reproductive, and Urologic Products (DBRUP) noted many of the studies on urological harms had limitations or missing information. But it advised FDA should inform the public of the FDA’s review of further studies. FDA higher-ups did not follow this recommendation.

May 1, 2020: An FDA memo shows that FDA conducted internal toxicology studies on Tylenol, but details are almost entirely redacted in the FOIA’d docs.

January 7, 2019: “These findings, like the data on neurodevelopmental outcomes, suggest that [acetominaphen’s] use during pregnancy is not necessarily free of risk … It would be desirable for the agency to communicate this message.” FDA higher-ups did not follow this recommendation.

July 15, 2022: “It may be prudent, as a precautionary measure, to issue a communication emphasizing that [acetaminophen] use in pregnancy should be judicious. The communication may also want to discuss [acetaminophen] use for fever during pregnancy. Untreated fevers during pregnancy are associated with poor pregnancy outcomes.” FDA higher-ups did not follow this recommendation.

March 10, 2023: In its submission to an ongoing class action lawsuit against Tylenol maker Kenvue, Biden’s DOJ only quoted from this 2023 FDA epidemiological review.

Unlike all of the prior reports it curiously had NO recommendations section.

Tylenol had posted a statement on Twitter on July 3, 2017 which reads, “We actually don’t recommend using any of our products while pregnant.”

Tylenol has since deleted the post and claims it was taken out of context.
