From Fox News: Tennessee authorities announced Saturday that no survivors have been recovered from a massive explosion at a rural manufacturing plant a day earlier after more than 300 investigators combed through the blast site.
The blast happened at Accurate Energetic Systems near Bucksnort, located about 50 miles west of Nashville, just before 8 a.m. local time Friday.
Since then, more than 300 people had conducted a “very delicate, very methodical” search of the scene, Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said at a press conference Saturday.
“I can tell you that more than 300 people have been through almost every square inch of this facility, and at this time, we’ve recovered no survivors,” Davis said, at times growing emotional.
“We find it even more devastating than what we thought initially,” Davis continued, fighting back tears. “Truly devastated. It’s a tremendous loss. A great loss.”
Davis also stated that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) is using “rapid DNA” testing to identify the remains of the victims of the massive explosion. He indicated that bodies won’t be recovered, saying, “It’s not like working an accident or a tornado… we’re dealing with an explosion, and at this time, we’re dealing with remains.”
Authorities have stated that 19 people are still missing, leaving the assumption that all 19 people were killed in the blast.
He explained that it may be days, weeks or months before they are able to know for certain whether foul play was involved.

The Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency announced in a Facebook post Saturday afternoon:
October 11, 1:00pm –
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Due to the significant debris and potential presence of explosive materials, response operations are progressing slowly and methodically. Controlled detonations will be conducted periodically at the site to safely dispose of unstable or hazardous materials. Nearby residents may hear or feel these detonations as they occur. Local officials will provide at least 30 minutes’ notice through their social media channel prior to each controlled explosion.
Before and after photos show the building was completely obliterated by the blast.
Evangelical leader Franklin Graham wrote in a post on Facebook, “Please pray for the community of McEwen, Tennessee, and the families of 18 people who are unaccounted for after the tragic explosion at a local munitions factory. We have deployed Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains to offer prayer and spiritual support there. Pray for those injured in the blast and for God’s comfort for all those who have lost loved ones. ”
