Before his death, Charlie Kirk reportedly vented frustration over what he called “bullying” by Jewish donors and said he was considering leaving the pro-Israel movement, according to messages confirmed Tuesday.
The revelation came after Candace Owens shared a screenshot of Kirk complaining in a group chat that donors were cutting funding due to his ties with Tucker Carlson. Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet verified the authenticity of the messages during The Charlie Kirk Show.
In the text messages, Kirk privately complained that a Jewish donor had withdrawn a $2 million investment in TPUSA because he refused to exclude Carlson from the upcoming AmericaFest event this December.
“Just lost another huge Jewish donor,” Kirk wrote. “$2 million a year because we won’t cancel Tucker. I’m thinking of inviting Candace.”
He then wrote: “Jewish donors play into all the stereotypes. I cannot and will not be bullied like this.”
Kirk concludes: “Leaving me no choice but to leave the pro Israel cause.”
Owens claimed the messages were sent two days before Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University, though Kolvet did not confirm the timing. Days after the murder, Tucker Carlson said a major donor had withdrawn funding shortly before Kirk’s death over his refusal to drop Carlson from December’s Americafest lineup. Back in September, Carlson also revealed that Kirk had often expressed negative views on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“He did not like Bibi Netanyahu and he said that to me many times and he said to people around him many times. He felt that Bibi Netanyahu was a very destructive force,” Carlson said.
Carlson also stated that Kirk’s criticism of Netanyahu centered around the Turning Point leader’s belief that the United States was being used to fight wars on behalf of Israel’s interests. The former Fox News host added that “there was a small, very intense group who tormented Charlie Kirk until the day he died.”
Owens, who has gone viral for publishing theories about Kirk’s death, is a vocal critic of Israel and Netanyahu. Despite her controversial theories, the FBI arrested Tyler Robinson, 22, as the prime suspect in Kirk’s murder shortly following the shooting. If found guilty of the murder of Kirk, Robinson could face the death penalty in the state of Utah.
The revelation of Kirk’s criticism of Israel surprised many, as the 31-year-old had been a leading evangelical supporter of the country. He frequently visited Israel for religious and political events, and it was there that he met his wife, Erika, years before their marriage.
Kolvet, who was one of Kirk’s closest friends, noted that he was aware of the text messages sent by Kirk, but chose not to share them publicly “because it was a private exchange… I wanted to not betray my friend’s trust.”
Kolvet also revealed that soon after Kirk’s assassination, he shared the text messages with government officials because he wanted to leave “no stone unturned.”
