From Fox News: The House passed a short-term federal funding bill backed by President Donald Trump on Friday morning, paving the way for averting a government shutdown if the Senate follows suit.
The legislation is aimed at keeping the government funded at current levels through Nov. 21 with a measure known as a continuing resolution (CR), designed to give House and Senate appropriators more time to strike a deal on fiscal 2026 federal spending.
It passed mostly along party lines in a 217-212 vote. Two Republicans, Reps. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., and Thomas Massie, R-Ky., voted against the measure. Just one Democrat, Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine., voted in favor.
Fiscal 2025 is slated to end on Sept. 30, and Congress risks a partial shutdown if the CR does not make it to Trump’s desk for a signature by then.
Massie defiantly posted on X that he had voted “no.” He had claimed in a post on Thursday that he would not support the bill “because this CR is a “continuing resolution” of Biden’s last omnibus, and an extension of Obama’s domestic spying law.”
My votes this morning:
H.R.5371 – Continuing Resolution, NO ❌
H.Res.719 – Honoring the life and legacy of Charles “Charlie” James Kirk, YES ✅

Meanwhile, Spartz said on Sunday that she was a “no” because… “I cannot support one that ends funding right before a major holiday to jam us with an Omnibus. I’ve seen this playbook too many times.”
Thanksgiving CR – NO. I am willing to vote for a CR of any duration—short or long—the least damage to the Republic, but I cannot support one that ends funding right before a major holiday to jam us with an Omnibus. I’ve seen this playbook too many times.https://t.co/mIyEoJozfa

Dems want to shut the government down if they can’t funnel hundreds of millions to NPR and PBS.
There are plenty of examples of the radical woke garbage that led to them being defunded in the first place… pic.twitter.com/H55jDwIa7Y
