President Donald Trump is doubling down in support of his tariffs after an appeals court declared Friday in a 7-4 vote that most of Trump’s tariffs on goods from other countries are ‘illegal.’
The court delayed the effective date of their ruling until October 14, giving the Trump administration time to appeal the matter to the Supreme Court, which they will almost certainly do.
As of last week, the U.S. had collected nearly $157 billion for the year in tariffs, which is $93.5 billion MORE than the same time period for 2024.
Earlier in August, Trump told reporters, “We’re going to pay down debt. We have a lot of money coming in — much more money than the country’s ever seen, by hundreds of billions of dollars… we should’ve done this many years ago.”
Trump has repeatedly argued that trade isn’t balanced, as other countries apply tariffs to the U.S., while the U.S. has not been doing the same.
Sunday night, Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social:
More than 15 Trillion Dollars will be invested in the USA, a RECORD. Much of this investment is because of Tariffs. If a Radical Left Court is allowed to terminate these Tariffs, almost all of this investment, and much more, will be immediately cancelled! In many ways, we would become a Third World Nation, with no hope of GREATNESS again. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!! President DJT
In another post Monday morning, the president added:
What few people understand is that we do very little business with India, but they do a tremendous amount of business with us. In other words, they sell us massive amounts of goods, their biggest “client,” but we sell them very little – Until now a totally one sided relationship, and it has been for many decades.
The reason is that India has charged us, until now, such high Tariffs, the most of any country, that our businesses are unable to sell into India. It has been a totally one sided disaster! Also, India buys most of its oil and military products from Russia, very little from the U.S.
They have now offered to cut their Tariffs to nothing, but it’s getting late. They should have done so years ago. Just some simple facts for people to ponder!!!
