CHURCH SHOOTING HORROR: Police give update on victims, fatalities in Minneapolis Catholic church shooting

New details are emerging on the mass shooting which occurred Wednesday morning during an all-school mass at a Catholic church in Minneapolis.

The shooter, described as a man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle, and in his early 20s, is now deceased, police have confirmed.  Police later stated that the gunman had three weapons, a rifle, a shotgun and a pistol.

The shooting happened at the Annunciation Catholic Church, which has a K-8 school on the property. The shooter reportedly walked to the side of the building and started firing through the windows into the church from outside during mass just before 8:30 a.m.

In a press conference at 12 noon ET, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said two children ages 8 and 10, were killed as they sat in the pews.

17 other people were injured, including 14 children. Two of those children are in critical condition.  The shooter then reportedly took his own life in the parking lot behind the church.

Police have not yet released the identity of the shooter, but said he appears to have no prior criminal history.

Children’s Minnesota Hospital has announced they are treating five children injured in the shooting, according to Fox9.

Another local hospital, Hennepin Healthcare, announced on X, “We are caring for patients from the shooting that occurred this morning. Please watch this and other social media sites for updates.”

During a press conference, Thomas Wyatt of the Hennepin Hospital later confirmed they are treating 11 patients from the shooting – 2 adults and 9 children.  Seven of the children are in “critical condition.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), wrote on X, “I am beyond heartbroken over the tragic news of the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. I am praying for all the families impacted by this horrific tragedy. I will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates.”
