From Valley Central: A tractor-trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of ribeye steaks went up in flames on a Missouri highway.
Officials with the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District in Phelps County shared news of the blaze on Monday morning, writing on Facebook that firefighters had extinguished “a well involved commercial vehicle fire” on Interstate 74.
The highway’s eastbound lanes were temporarily closed to traffic as well, official said.
A few hours later, officials shared video of firefighters driving to the scene of the fire, with smoke seen billowing from the burning tractor-trailer.
In posting the video, the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District wrote:
“Here’s the initial video of 6610 arriving on scene of the tractor trailer this morning at the 174 eastbound. The trailer was packed with 40,000 pounds of ribeye steaks. Unfortunately they are all a total loss.
“Also, this was Probationary FF Jenna Ulrich’s first fire and she got to fight it along side her father, FF Glenn Ulrich. Jenna is on the hose line. This is our 8th vehicle fire in the last 3 weeks.”
Commenting on the video, one Facebook user quipped, “I bet that’s the best smelling fire you’ve responded to.”
The fire department later joked in another post, “Nothing says ‘welcome to the fire service’ like sending the probie to put out 40,000 pounds of flaming ribeye! Probationary Firefighter Jenna Ulrich is the only vegan on our department——so naturally, her very first fire involved a tractor trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of ribeye steak 🐄 🐄 🐄 🐄 🐄”
