Psalm 118:24
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it”.
Commentary by Kat L.
It’s Monday, and how many times have you dreaded those treks back to the office, moving away from the freedom of the weekend to the 9-5 of the work week? But even on Monday, the day is good; fresh with hope and opportunity.
Every morning, we get a fresh start—a brand-new day, all thanks to the Lord Himself. No matter what yesterday was like—the tough stuff, the things we regret, or even the good times—today is a gift that’s never been given before. God invites us to approach it with gratitude and joy, knowing that He’s been with us every step of the way. Choosing to be happy doesn’t mean ignoring the challenges; it means remembering that God is good, His mercies are new, and His plans are always for the best.
Rejoicing is a choice we make before our circumstances get the best of us. When we wake up and say, “This is the day the Lord has made,” we’re aligning our hearts with Heaven’s perspective. Even in the little things—the warm sunshine, the laughter of a loved one, the gentle presence of God—He gives us reasons to be grateful.
So today, let’s lift our eyes from what’s temporary and focus on the One who made this very day for His glory and our good. Whatever comes our way, we can walk through it with a smile of faith, because the Creator of today is also the one who’ll be with us tomorrow.
Dear Lord Jesus, You are so amazing and loving. You have created this day, and every day before and after. Every tree, ray of sun, ladybug, and pebble – they are Yours, shared with us to be a blessing. Thank You for Your good gifts, and help me to seek Your joy in every day. AMEN
