UPDATE: Officer injured, suspect dead in shooting at Emory University’s Atlanta campus

FROM ABC NEWS: A law enforcement officer was injured after an active shooter was reported at Emory University’s Atlanta campus on Friday.

The Atlanta Police Department said the suspect is now dead.

Sources told ABC News that local police encountered a suspect and attempted to engage the person when gunfire was exchanged.


The heavily armed suspect had been on the roof of the Emory Point CVS, where he was located by police, sources told ABC News.

A police officer sustained serious injury during a gunfire exchange with the suspect, sources said.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said an update on the officer’s condition is forthcoming and that there were no civilian casualties.

Notably, the campus is located near the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At this time there is no reported motive, and it is unclear when their the crime was related to the CDC.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp posted a statement on X.

“Twice this week, deranged criminals have targeted innocent Georgians,” Kemp wrote. “Each time, brave first responders rushed toward the danger to subdue the shooter and save lives, reminding us of just how crucial they are.”

“Marty, the girls, and I are thankful for all those who answer the call to serve and who protect their fellow Georgians,” Kemp added. “We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center.”
