From Channel2Now.com: TRAVERSE CITY, MI — A major law enforcement and emergency response was launched Saturday evening following a mass stabbing at the Walmart Supercenter in Traverse City.
The incident occurred just before 5:00 p.m., prompting a Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) declaration as multiple victims were reported.
The exact number of victims is still unclear, but a local hospital said 11 victims are being treated.
According to the report, a man armed with a knife suddenly began randomly attacking shoppers in multiple departments throughout the store, including the produce and grocery areas.
Terrified shoppers reportedly began running in all directions trying to escape the attacker. Two shoppers were finally able to subdue the suspect and hold him until police arrived and took him into custody.
One witness, Amber Paull, described the attacker as “a foreign guy.”
One store employee, Tasha Nash, told reporters, “Me and my sister work there. The whole store started screaming and running. There was a guy with a knife—he stabbed six people. I saw someone stabbed in the eye.”
Traverse City, Michigan is located about 255 miles northwest of Detroit.

Munson Healthcare is aware of the tragic incident that occurred earlier today at the Walmart in Traverse City. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action.
We can confirm that 11 victims are being treated at Munson Medical Center. As a result, our Emergency Department is currently experiencing a higher-than-usual volume of patients.
We are working closely with local authorities and emergency services to ensure the best possible care for those impacted. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding as we manage this increased demand. We will provide updates as appropriate and continue to support our community during this difficult time.
Michigan State Police announced in a post on X, “Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a multiple stabbing incident at the Wal-Mart in Traverse City. The suspect is in custody, details are limited at this time. A PIO is in route to the scene and details will be posted @mspnorthernmi and @MSPWestmi as they become available. Please avoid the area as the investigation is on-going.”
