BREAKING: DHS Sec Noem rips NYC mayor over sanctuary city laws after Border Agent shot in the face; second suspect caught

From the New York Post: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem tore into Mayor Eric Adams over sanctuary city laws on Monday after an off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer was shot in the face allegedly by “scum of the earth” illegal immigrants.

Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a 21-year-old Dominican national with a lengthy rap sheet in New York, and another illegal migrant suspect have now both taken into custody after they allegedly ambushed the agent and his friend in Fort Washington Park in Manhattan late Saturday.

Nunez, who was wounded when the CBP agent returned fire during the alleged botched robbery, was cuffed after he showed up a Bronx hospital in the aftermath, authorities said.

The second suspect was caught Monday morning.

Noem held a press conference Monday morning alongside Border Czar Tom Homan, CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott and other officials.

Citing Nunez’s lengthy rap sheet and illegal entry into the U.S., Noem said, “There’s absolutely zero reason that someone who is scum of the earth like this should be running loose on the streets of New York City.”

After the press conference, Noem released the identity and mugshot of the second illegal alien arrested in the attack: 

The second suspect involved in the shooting of @CBP agent was caught by @ICEGov early this morning. Christhian Aybar-Berroa, is an illegal from the Dominican Republic. He entered the country illegally in 2022 under the Biden Administration and was ordered for final removed in 2023 by an immigration judge.

He has a criminal record in New York City and detainers were IGNORED thanks to @ericadamsfornyc sanctuary city policies. He was arrested for reckless endangerment and larceny and was released before ICE could get him off the streets.

The first suspect, the gunman who shot the off-duty Border Patrol agent, was arrested Sunday morning:

Suspect Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez is a national and citizen of the Dominican Republic. RE ENTERED and RELEASED under Biden— on April 4, 2023 the United States Border Patrol apprehended him at/near San Luis, AZ. This criminal has a criminal warrant in Massachusetts for kidnapping and had been charged with a series of offenses.

During the press conference, Noem lambasted NYC Mayor Eric Adams for supporting sanctuary city policies, along with other Democrat sanctuary city mayors.

She and Border Czar Tom Homan also slammed the liberal media for stirring up public dissent against ICE.

“I’m sick and tired of reading in the media every day how ICE is not doing what the
Trump administration has promised that we’re not arresting criminals, that most of the people we arrested are not criminals,” Homan said.

“The numbers on a day, 130,000 arrests and, 90,000 criminals. Do the math. That’s 70%. And who are the others? Others are those who have final orders. Who had due process. A great taxpayer expense. A federal judge ordered them removed,” Homan continued.

“Who are the rest of the people? National security threats. Under Secretary Nolan’s leadership, they’ve arrested a several hundred Iranian nationals, National security threats. They may not have a criminal conviction, but they need to be detained. They need to be arrested and taken off the streets of this country,” he added.

“Sanctuary cities are now our priority. We’re gonna flood the zone,” vowed Homan.

“I saw a story the other day. 21% of illegal aliens removed were murderers. Are you kidding me? Being in the country illegally is not illegal anymore. You got to commit a murder to be deported?” he demanded.
