Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, when a gunman opened fire at a rally in Butler, PA, any many conservatives paid tribute to the day by noting the miracle that Trump survived the attack.
But Monday marked another significant anniversary.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 67, posted a video Monday morning, announcing that it was 41 years ago today when he was left permanently paralyzed from the waist down, due to a freak accident while he was out jogging.
On July 14, 1984, when he was only 26 years old, an oak tree fell on Abbott while he was out for a jog in Houston after a storm. He has been wheelchair-bound ever since.
Abbott, a Republican, has served as governor of Texas since January 2015. Prior to that, he was Attorney General of Texas from 2002-2015, and also served as a Justice on the Texas Supreme Court from 1996-2001.
Sharing a brief but inspiring video message at noon Monday, Abbott wrote, “41 years ago, a life-changing accident left me paralyzed from the waist down. Determination drove me to never give up. Our lives are not defined by our challenges, but by how we respond to them.”
