From the New York Post: City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by ICE agents Tuesday in a chaotic scene outside a federal immigration court, his mayoral campaign confirmed.

Video showed Lander repeatedly demanding to see a judicial warrant for a man being hauled away by immigration agents — all while he kept his hand clutched on the detainee’s shoulder.

After Lander refused to let go, a voice could be heard saying, “Take him in,” prompting agents to cuff him.

“You don’t have the authority to arrest US citizens,” Lander repeated in protest, according to video shared by an amNY reporter.

The agents kept telling Lander to “let go” but he refused. He is heard defiantly saying, “I would like to see the warrant, and then I will let go.”

But they were out of patience with him, and slapped handcuffs on him, arresting him for obstruction of governmental administration.

Politico reporter Jeff Coltin also posted a video of Lander being arrested.

Lander, who is running for Mayor of New York City, is on the ballot for the June 24 Democratic primary.

The Department of Homeland Security reacted to the incident in a post on X, writing, “New York City Comptroller Brad Lander was arrested for assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer. Our heroic ICE law enforcement officers face a 413% increase in assaults against them—it is wrong that politicians seeking higher office undermine law enforcement safety to get a viral moment. No one is above the law, and if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will face consequences.”

DHS then seized on an old post by Lander, in which he had written last year, “No one is above the law.”

“No one is above the law, and if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will face consequences. New York City Comptroller Brad Lander was arrested for assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer,” the DHS wrote.

Lander’s wife, Meg Barnette, admitted this is the third time her husband has gone to escort illegal aliens in recent days.

“All of the other folks in that building are risking having are risking having their families torn apart with inadequate explanation, and it’s an abomination, and it is not what we stand for in this country,” she complained, defending the illegal alien criminals ICE is rounding up.

A group of over 100 people have gathered to protest Lander’s arrest, including fellow mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat socialist.

New York Attorney General Letitia James is reportedly on her way to join the protest.

Another Democrat mayoral candidate, Adrienne Adams, went on a screaming rampage against President Donald Trump and declared New York will NEVER give up its sanctuary city policies.

In a post on X, AG Letitia James fumed, “ICE’s arrest of New York City Comptroller Brad Lander is a shocking abuse of power. No one should face fear and intimidation in a courthouse, and this administration’s continued rampant targeting of New Yorkers makes our communities less safe.”
