President Donald Trump has released a statement condemning the deadly shootings of two Minnesota state lawmakers Saturday morning.
A gunman posing as a police officer reportedly went to the homes of state Sen. John Hoffman and state Rep. Melissa Hortman, both Democrats, and shot them and their spouses.
Hortman and her husband were killed, while Hoffman and his wife were both badly wounded and are hospitalized.
The horrific shootings happened around 2:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
A manhunt is now underway for the suspect.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote:
I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against State Lawmakers. Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law.
Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!
Attorney General Pam Bondi also wrote on social media, “I am closely monitoring developments in Minnesota after what appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers. The FBI is on the ground investigating this case alongside state and local partners. This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
