Billionaire and former DOGE leader Elon Musk issued a brief but humble apology on X around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, after his bitter feud with President Donald Trump that started last Thursday.

Musk, whose 130-day allotted term heading up the Department of Government Efficiency ended on May 31, went rogue just two days later, coming out in fierce opposition to the funding bill Trump is trying to get pushed through Congress. That started a war of words in which Musk crossed the line with some personal attacks against Trump.

In one post, he threatened to decommission a SpaceX craft, then later backed down. In another post, he made the wild allegation that Trump was listed in the Epstein files. He later deleted that post, as well as another in which he suggested Trump should be impeached.

Musk had also put up a poll asking if a new political party should be started, which implied that he was considering bailing out on his support for Republicans.

President Trump fired back by warning there would be very serious consequences if Musk started funding Democrats, and indicated their friendship was over.

After the first few days of the bitter feud, Musk appeared to soften in his attitude, and Trump said he wished him well.

Now, Musk has apologized.

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” he wrote in a simple post Wednesday morning.

An interesting exchange took place over the weekend. Someone asked Musk, “Elon, are you ok?”

“Just thinking,” Musk responded.

X user James Steele responded with some advice for Musk:

I hope you see this @elonmusk. The past is beyond your grasp, and regret is a chain that binds you only if you allow it. You cannot undo what was said, but you can master what you do now.

Your heart, as you know, and as all of us know, seeks the good – progress for humanity, innovation, and a better future. Cling to this purpose, for it is the measure of a man, not the fleeting judgments of others or the echoes of a misstep. Even your own.

WHITE HOUSE RESPONDS

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a briefing Wednesday, “The President acknowledged the statement that Elon put out this morning, and he is appreciative of it, and we are continuing to focus on the business of the American people.”

Leavitt said the Trump administration has made no effort to cancel any contracts Musk has with the federal government.

Trump said during a podcast interview with journalist Miranda Devine, which aired on Wednesday, “Look, I have no hard feelings. I was really surprised that that happened. He went after a bill that’s phenomenal. He just — I think he feels very badly that he said that, actually.”

Musk is being commended for his apology statement.
