From the Associated Press: OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Immigration authorities raided an Omaha meat production plant Tuesday morning and took dozens of workers away in buses, leaving company officials bewildered because they said they had followed the law.
The raid happened around 9 a.m. at Glenn Valley Foods in south Omaha, an area where nearly a quarter of residents were foreign born according to the 2020 census.
A small group of people came out to protest the raid, and some of them even jumped on the front bumper of a vehicle to try to stop officers in one location while others threw rocks at officials’ vehicles as a white bus carrying workers pulled away from a plant.
According to the report, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrived with a list of 97 people they wanted to check out. Workers were separated by those who had documents showing they were U.S. citizens, those who had valid work documents and those who did not have documents, then about 70 people were taken away in buses.
According to News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley, the 70 people taken away during the raid were either using fake documents or fraudulently using the identities of U.S. citizens.
Bradley explained:
ICE conducts largest workplace enforcement operation in Nebraska since President Trump took office—More than 100 illegal immigrants were working illegally at Glenn Valley Foods in Omaha—They were either using fake documents or fraudulently using the identities of U.S. citizens.
The owner used E-Verify and says he is frustrated that he did everything he could to hire legally, now he has to rehire an entire workforce.
Many of them scattered when officials arrive with a warrant—Some were in the rafters, one man was hiding in the wall and pulled a box cutter on an agent. He will be charged with assault on a federal officer.
The owner tells us he will be working with ICE on best practices to rehire.

The president of the food packaging company, Chad Hartmann, claimed he uses E-Verify and does everything “by the book,” so couldn’t understand why his company was being raided. He said ICE officers told told him the E-Verify system “is broken.”
“I mean, what am I supposed to do with that?” Hartmann declared. “This is your system, run by the government. And you’re raiding me because your system is broken?”
The owner and CEO, Gary Rohwer, spoke with reporters and admitted that many of the workers on the ICE list were discovered to be using fake ID, and said, “The E-Verify system doesn’t work, it’s a joke.”
