From Daily MailThe epidemic of colon cancer among young people is increasingly becoming the focus of research and alarm — but there is another form of the deadly disease that is rising even faster.

Researchers from Vanderbilt University say appendiceal cancer, also known as appendix cancer, which killed actor Adan Canto at 42, is now surging among people under 50 years old.

According to the researchers, appendiceal cancer remains exceptionally rare, with approximately 3,000 cases diagnosed annually in the United States. Early detection significantly improves patient survival rates, extending their lives beyond five years in between occurring between 67 and 97 percent of cases.

However, the cancer is concerning because it is frequently misdiagnosed in its early stages, often attributed to benign conditions such as food poisoning or gastrointestinal issues.
