The Department of Government Efficiency is still hard at work, identifying waste, fraud and abuse, and cancelling jaw-dropping expenditures for woke nonsense that had reportedly been slipped into government spending by Democrats during the Biden administration.
DOGE is continuing to post progress reports on social media, including the following list of woke contracts that have now been axed on the chopping block:
During the previous administration, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded the following grants to spend taxpayer dollars, all of which have been cancelled ($163M in overall savings). NEH grants will be merit-based and awarded to non-DEI, pro-America causes:
– $350k for interactive gay travel guides to better understand historical LGBTQ+ spaces
– $350k to create a Spanish version of http://Homosauras.org (https://en.homosaurus.org)
– $247k to digitize stories of transgender adults in the Pacific Northwest
– $75k to examine the relationship between internet live streaming and LGBTQ+ communities
– $60k to research how LGBTQ+ cartoonists innovated comics in the 1980s & 1990s
– $150k for excavation of Egypt’s first industrial-scale brewery

If you’re wondering why the United States Postal Service is having so many financial struggles, here’s where some of the money went:
Great work by @USPS on their contract review. 8,639 contracts were reviewed, resulting in the cancellation or modification of 1,076 contracts with $188.5M in savings.
This included a $791k contract for “Negotiation Skills Training” and $100k for “CIO All Hands Meeting – Overflow Hotel Rooms”.

The U.S. Census Bureau had also been pouring money down the drain for nonsense polls:
Besides the Census itself, the @USCensusBureau performs 102 additional surveys costing $2.2 billion, many of them obsolete with the results not being used to drive any action nor even looked at.
The Census Bureau and DOGE are reviewing them one-by-one. So far, 5 wasteful surveys, totaling 493 pages of questions and $16.5M in costs, have been terminated, with questions like:
– “In your entire life, have you had at least 12 drinks of any kind of alcohol, not counting small tastes or sips?”
– “Was this MOSTLY regular wine, wine coolers, or fortified wine?”
– “How frequently do you use the internet in your home?”

The Biden administration must have thought money just grew on trees. Here’s more bizarre contracts cancelled, including from the Department of Defense:
Over the last two days, agencies terminated 120 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $3.1B and savings of $908M, including a $288k DoD consulting contract for “culture services”, and $4.05M for “technical services” in Mozambique.

The Office of Personnel Management had an INSANE number of phone lines they were paying for:
Unused phone lines! Of the 1048 @USOPM phone lines, 198 (19%) were either unused or duplicated. OPM cancelled these lines (took 1 hour), resulting in ~$100k/yr in savings.
Since OPM is ~0.1% of the federal government, this suggests that ~$100M/yr is wasted on unused lines.

The Department of Labor was wasting money on phone lines as well:
The phone line saga continues! @USDOL currently has 16,800 licenses for phone lines, but, in the last 30 days only 4,000 were used (24%). DOL is canceling the unused lines, which will result in > $500k/yr in savings.
