The streets of Kansas City, Missouri have turned into dangerous chaos, and police, as well as local business owners, are fed up.

From the New York Post: Wild street racing and surging crime have turned a once-bustling downtown Kansas City, Missouri, neighborhood into a pit of Hell for residents and small business owners who say police presence in the neighborhood has vanished, according to a report.

The midwestern city’s nightlife-centric Crossroads neighborhood has been seemingly commandeered by road racers using souped-up cars, dirt bikes, and ATVs that take over entire intersections for out-of-control stunts at night, according to Fox 4.

“I feel as though this city is about as unsafe as it’s been since my family has been at 207 Southwest Boulevard and that’s 45 years this September,” David Lopez, general manager of Manny’s Mexican Restaurant in downtown KC, told Fox.

To keep his staffers safe from the joyriders, the restaurateur told the outlet that he now sends waitresses, dishwashers, and other staff home at 8 p.m., which used to be the time of a dinner rush.

Another local restaurant owner, Bradley Gilmore, said he had reached out directly to Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas, but received no response.

One Kansas City police officer was early killed last month, as he was attempting to arrest an ATV driver, and received serious head injuries when he was struck by the ATV.

Fox4 News reported on Saturday: Four people were arrested on Friday night after pointing a gun at a Kansas City, Missouri police officer on Friday night.

Officers were attempting to arrest an ATV driver near Southwest Boulevard and 31st Street when a silver Infiniti sedan began doing burnouts and donuts in the intersection in front of officers. The rear side passenger pointed a black handgun with a green laser attachment directly at them.

The Infiniti fled the scene, driving at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour on I-35, crossing state lines into Kansas and then returning to Missouri. The chase ended at Southwest Trafficway and 31st Street where it collided with another vehicle. Multiple people exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot before being arrested. The two backseat passengers were juveniles.

The Kansas City Police Department posted photos on social media, along with the following details:

Last night, officers were attempting to arrest an ATV driver who was breaking the law when a suspect(s) in a vehicle pointed a weapon at them.

These suspects tried to flee, but could not. Officers arrested all four people in the vehicle, including juveniles.

They recovered three guns. Felony charges are pending.

The officers involved were added to our Entertainment District Plan, which the department activated last week, earlier than previous years. Extra officers will continue to be present.

In total, Friday night into Saturday, we arrested six criminals, towed two vehicles, seized five firearms, issued nine citations, issued four summons, and seized drugs.

5/12/25 Update: Officers arrested 12 suspects from this enforcement this weekend, and towed six vehicles.
