President Trump held a campaign-style rally in Warren, Michigan, to mark his first 100 days in office, claiming they were the “most successful” in U.S. history.
Speaking for nearly 90 minutes to a crowd of about 3,000 at Macomb Community College, Trump listed achievements like a crackdown on illegal immigration, with crossings at a record low, and imposing tariffs to boost domestic manufacturing. He also touted ending Biden’s “electric vehicle mandate,” signing over 130 executive orders, and securing a $1 trillion defense investment, including new F-15EX jets for Michigan’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
Trump claimed economic wins, such as job creation and market growth, though he exaggerated figures like an 87% drop in egg prices and gas below $2 a gallon. Recent polls, however, show his approval rating struggling, with a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll at 39% approval and 55% disapproval, while others range from 40-45%. A New York Times/Siena College survey found 55% disapprove of his economic handling, and 64% oppose his tariff policies.
Some Trump supporters and Americans dismiss these polls as “fake,” echoing Trump’s claim that legitimate polls would show him in the 60s or 70s. Critics, including Democrats, argue his tariffs risk recession, with the U.S. economy shrinking 0.3% in Q1 2025. Despite the mixed sentiment, most supporters remain optimistic, believing Trump’s policies need time to succeed.
