From Fox News: Former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff lashed out at the Trump administration, accusing it of politicizing the Holocaust and dishonoring the memory of six million murdered Jews after he was removed from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
The Holocaust Memorial Council oversees the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Most of the members of the council are appointed by the president and serve five-year terms.
Emhoff, who is Jewish and is married to former Vice President Kamala Harris, was appointed to the council by former President Joe Biden.
According to the New York Times, Biden had appointed a number of people from his administration to the Holocaust Memorial Council in January, right before he left office. President Trump has now fired them. In addition to Emhoff, others fired include:
- Ron Klain, Biden’s first chief of staff
- Tom Perez, the former labor secretary and senior adviser to Joe Biden
- Susan Rice, the national security adviser to former President Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s top domestic policy adviser
- Anthony Bernal, a senior adviser to Jill Biden
Other council members appointed by Joe Biden who Trump fired on Tuesday include:
- Alan D. Solomont
- Former Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI)
In a statement to the media, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump looks forward to appointing new individuals who will not only continue to honor the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust, but who are also steadfast supporters of the State of Israel.”
Emhoff is fuming over being fired from the position. He released the following statement on social media:
“Today, I was informed of my removal from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Let me be clear: Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized. To turn one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue is dangerous — and it dishonors the memory of six million Jews murdered by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve.
“No divisive political decision will ever shake my commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education or to combatting hate and antisemitism. I will continue to speak out, to educate, and to fight hate in all its forms—because silence is never an option.”

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer pointed out that while the media is voicing outrage over Trump firing the Democrats from the Holocaust Memorial Council, no one is mentioning that Joe Biden fired multiple people appointed by Trump , and had fired him from the US Naval Academy’s Board of Visitors.
In an op-ed in January, Spicer wrote, “The Biden team fired every person Trump had named to a service academy board: the Naval Academy, West Point and the Air Force Academy.”
