First Lady Melania Trump turned 55 years old Saturday. If other plans had been made to celebrate her birthday, those all had to be laid aside, as she traveled to Rome with President Trump to attend the Pope’s funeral on Saturday instead.
Mrs. Trump was born on April 26, 1970, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, to parents Viktor and Amalija Knavs. Her mother passed away in January 2024.
Melania began her modeling career at the age of 16, and moved to New York City in 1996. She met real estate developer Donald Trump in 1998, and they were married in 2005. Melania became a U.S. citizen on July 28, 2006.
When Trump was inaugurated as President in January 2017, Melania became the second foreign-born woman to hold the title of First Lady, and was the first naturalized citizen to hold the title. She was also the second Roman Catholic First Lady of the U.S., after Jacqueline Kennedy.
