From Fox News: New York Attorney General Letitia James has been hit with shocking allegations by the Trump administration, accusing her of mortgage fraud.
In documents obtained by Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle,” the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) sent a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, accusing James of mortgage fraud Tuesday.
FHFA Director William Pulte said in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi that James appears to have falsified records to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms.
Pulte cited a property in Virginia that James allegedly claimed as her principal residence and a property in New York she claimed as a four-unit structure instead of five, which he said could mean she was able to get a different and more favorable loan.

In a report Tuesday night, Fox News host Laura Ingraham first played multiple clips of James ranting against President Trump, declaring that no one is above the law.
“The irony is perfectly crushing,” noted George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley. “This is a person who prosecuted Trump for everything short of ripping a label off a mattress, and among the charges that were brought in New York, in just the civil but the criminal case, was making false or misleading statements to financial institutions. As for James, if we apply the Letitia James standard that she created, there’d be little question here. This seems pretty straightforward.”
“This is really for James, the very case that she most famously brought. She insisted that these technicalities matter and that the powerful should not be given a free pass. Well, that bill has come due in this case… I’m honestly just not sure how you defend against this unless you say that these are fraudulent documents,'” Turley continued.
Turley noted that, as an elected official in New York, James has to say her principal residence is in New York. However, she has reported a property in Virginia as her principal residence.
James has also allegedly listed her father as her husband, in order to file as a married couple.

…As I mentioned, we have not heard her side of this. However, absent a claim of falsified documents, it is hard to square some of these representations.

The Case Against NY Attorney General Letitia James to Date, A Roadmap for Law Enforcement.

This report isn’t just another exposé. It’s designed as a clear roadmap for law enforcement, journalists, regulatory authorities, and ethics officials to conduct further investigation.
The report includes convenient jump links to each key area of concern, making it easy to navigate directly to specific issues like:
❌Principal residence misrepresentation in Virginia
❌Hidden and phantom mortgages
❌Severe overleveraging with 272% loan-to-value ratio
❌Misrepresenting unit count in Brooklyn home to obtain favorable mortgages
❌Brooklyn property unit count discrepancies
❌Handwritten mortgage alterations on HAMP documents
❌Missing and misclassified mortgages on financial disclosures
❌Undisclosed rental income spanning multiple years
❌Taxpayer-funded private jet travel totaling $41,807
❌ Luxury campaign spending with creative accounting
❌Selective enforcement of building codes
❌The 1983 Queens property “husband and wife” designation
❌A chronological timeline showing a 40-year pattern
By bringing together evidence from multiple properties and decades of filings, this report shows that these are not isolated errors — but a systematic pattern of misrepresentations by the very official tasked with prosecuting similar conduct.

Details of the allegations against James had begun to trickle out over the weekend.
President Trump responded, “Letitia James, a totally corrupt politician, should resign from her position as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY. Everyone is trying to MAKE NEW YORK GREAT AGAIN, and it can never be done with this wacky crook in office.”
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) mocked James by posting a screenshot of one of her old social media posts. He wrote:

Fox Business anchor Elizabeth MacDonald also posted a list of allegations against James:
The mortgage fraud accusations against NYS AG Letitia James are serious and cannot be written off as politically motivated. Here’s the roadmap why – having covered corporate accounting scandals, taxes and the IRS, the details here are pretty overwhelming. Again, these are accusations, the evidence has yet to be shown. But it’s serious stuff.
Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director William Pulte sent a criminal referral to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche, alleging that James had “falsified records” to get mortgages for a property in Virginia that she claimed was her “principal residence” in 2023 when she was still serving as a New York state prosecutor.
The central financial gain would be access to save money via more favorable loan terms—whether that means lower interest rates, more favorable qualification standards, or eligibility for programs she wouldn’t otherwise qualify for. If these claims are true, they could amount to bank fraud or false statements to a financial institution, both federal crimes:
1. Claiming the Norfolk, Virginia, Property as a Primary Residence
*Allegation: James reportedly claimed a property in Norfolk, Virginia, as her primary residence in 2023 while still serving as New York Attorney General.
•Potential Financial Benefit:
•Lower Mortgage Rates: Primary residence mortgages usually come with lower interest rates compared to second homes or investment properties.
•Lower Down Payment: Lenders often allow smaller down payments for primary residences.
•Tax Deductions: Claiming a property as a primary residence can make mortgage interest and property taxes eligible for deduction.
•Residency Conflict: If she was not actually residing there, this could constitute a false statement to the lender.
Allegation: She is accused of listing a five-unit building as a four-unit dwelling on official and financial documents.
•Potential Financial Benefit:
•Loan Eligibility: Some mortgage programs, especially FHA and other government-backed loans, are only available for 1–4 unit properties.
•Better Loan Terms: These programs typically offer lower interest rates, reduced mortgage insurance premiums, and less stringent credit requirements.
•Avoiding Commercial Loan Rates: A five-unit property is considered commercial real estate, which would require different, often more expensive, financing.
Allegation: On mortgages from 1983 and 2000, James and her father were listed as “husband and wife.”
•Potential Financial Benefit:
•Joint Income Qualification: Listing as spouses may allow for combined income to qualify for a larger mortgage.
•Simplified Title and Loan Processing: Lenders may offer simpler terms or fewer questions if applicants appear to be a married couple.
•Intent to Deceive Lender?: If the false representation was made knowingly to obtain better terms, it could be considered fraud.
