Rumors of Elon Musk abruptly leaving his role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have been debunked, with White House insiders and Musk himself dismissing the claims as “fake news.”
Reports from Politico and other outlets suggested Musk might step down early from his position as a special government employee, citing tensions with Trump and a supposed shift back to his business ventures. However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called these reports “garbage,” stating that both Musk and Trump have publicly affirmed he will remain until his DOGE mission—cutting $1 trillion in federal spending—is complete. President Trump has expressed a strong desire for Musk to stay, telling reporters he’d keep him “as long as possible,” praising Musk’s work and calling him a “patriot.” Despite the rumors, no evidence supports a rift, and Trump has hinted DOGE uncovered something “horrible,” suggesting Musk’s role remains critical.
Meanwhile, concerns have swirled around Tesla’s stock, which dropped over 31% year-to-date and saw a 13% sales decline in Q1 2025, partly blamed on backlash to Musk’s government role. Critics argue his time away from Tesla, SpaceX, and other ventures—coupled with protests and vandalism targeting Tesla—could harm his businesses long-term. Musk acknowledged the toll, noting at a Wisconsin town hall that his stock “went roughly in half,” calling it “a very expensive job.” Investors like Christopher Tsai have warned that Musk’s political involvement might alienate customers and hurt Tesla’s market position, especially amid Trump’s looming 25% tariffs affecting its supply chain.
We want to ask you, the reader: Do you believe Elon Musk should remain with DOGE and the Trump admin.? Answer in our poll below and comment your thoughts on the reports claiming Musk’s time with Trump may be coming to an end.
