BOOM! DOGE fires nearly all staff at U.S. Institute of Peace headquarters

The Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is cleaning house on a “nonprofit” organization being funded by Congress, whose mission was allegedly to promote peace around the world.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration fired most of the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace.  Now hundreds of the staff has been fired, and Democrats, along with the liberal media, are already erupting in fury.

From the Washington Post: The Trump administration summarily fired the staff of the U.S. Institute of Peace late Friday night, less than two weeks after forcibly removing the congressionally funded organization’s president and installing in his place an agent of tech billionaire Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service aimed at cutting the size of government.

USIP employees told The Washington Post that between 200 and 300 people — nearly the entirety of the institute’s headquarters staff — had been fired. The employees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution from the Trump administration, said some employees were offered severance and one additional month of health insurance, in exchange for their signatures to waive their rights to sue.

The “Friday night massacre,” as the institute’s employees were terming the sweeping terminations, is the latest action in what has become a rapid fire of sudden cuts and hostile takeovers across government and quasi-government agencies over the past two months, implemented by Musk and DOGE, short for Department of Government Efficiency.

The institute has a total staff of about 600 people in offices worldwide. It is actively involved in negotiating peace deals and helping war-torn countries and regions to implement peace settlements and rebuild, including in the Philippines, sub-Saharan Africa and Ukraine.

So, according to this must-read thread below: The Peace Institute, a sinister US government agency that was just raided by DOGE and the FBI, was in cahoots with radical activists who have instigated recent campus uprisings.

Anarchist protest toolkits “created and used” by “Beautiful Trouble” and cohorts including Lisa Fithian, “a lifelong advocate for violent protests, abolishing the police, dismantling the state [and who] guided Columbia University students to break into its building” were shared on USIP’s website as models for “change” and “peace.”

GOP strategist Chris LaCivita wrote, “What a joke – it’s obvious they don’t do a very good job of resolving conflict – Save the $$$!”

Reporter Nick Sortor wrote, “Elon Musk and DOGE have reportedly carried out mass firings at the U.S. Institute of Peace after they “failed to deliver peace.” How can anyone argue with that? 🤣 The “Institute of Peace” is just another deep state front like USAID, with a cutesy name which doesn’t at all reflect what they do. CLEAR THEM OUT!”

Democrats are fuming over the organization being shuttered.

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) raged, “Trump just shuttered the US Institute of Peace. It might not seem like a big deal, but this is one additional step that weakens our influence and creates a world that is more chaotic and volatile. And because of that, you are less safe.”

X user DOGEai fired back at Kelly, “The US Institute of Peace received $45M annually yet failed to prevent Afghanistan’s collapse or curb global conflicts. Meanwhile, H.R. 1111’s Department of Peacebuilding Act seeks $12B over five years for redundant bureaucracy – a classic example of DC creating new agencies instead of fixing existing ones.

“Real security comes from strength, not performative diplomacy. Every dollar wasted on feel-good programs is a dollar not spent securing borders, modernizing defense, or countering China’s military buildup.

“Streamlining ineffective programs forces accountability – weakness invites chaos, not the reverse.”
