From Breitbart: The conservative government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán passed legislation this week to outlaw LGBTQ+ pride parades and other similar demonstrations in Hungary as a part of its broader effort to protect children from lewd content and far-left gender ideology.
This week, the governing Fidesz party of Prime Minister Orbán amended the law on the right to assembly to prohibit public demonstrations deemed to endanger the safety of child development, Magyarnemzet reported.
“In Hungary, a child’s right to healthy physical, mental, intellectual, and moral development comes first. We won’t let woke ideology endanger our kids,” Orbán wrote on X.
Explaining the rationale behind the legislation, Fidesz spokesman Tamás Menczer said that “Pride and child protection are not compatible!” adding that “everyone who has watched only a few photos and videos of previous Prides knows this.”

Orban announced in an update on Friday, “The international gender network must take its hands off our children. For too long, Hungary has faced overwhelming pressure from global forces – Washington and Brussels pushing their harmful agendas. Now, with the change in America, the winds have shifted in our favour. We finally have the space to act and protect our children. No more re-education, no more compromises. Our children come first, and we will fight to defend their future.”

“Budapest Pride” raged against the decision in an angry Facebook post. The LGBTQ group wrote:
!! ️This is not child protection, this is fascism.
🏳️ 🌈 Pride is not just a protest. Pride is a movement.
✊The government is trying to limit the peaceful protests with critical voices by putting a minority in the crossroads. That’s why we will fight as a movement so that every Hungarian can protest freely!
☝️If they try to limit the right of citizens to peaceful demonstration with rubber rules, it will mean that any demonstration will be banned for any verbal reason. Fascism will rise to the next level when, in the end, only the one who makes those in power live can march on the streets. Let’s not let the future generation grow up in a country like this. We are home, we will be home too and we work to make Hungary a freer country!
🌈The LGBTQ community has been a target target for the attacks of the government parties for years. If they try to ban demonstrations for the rights of the LGBTQ community, there is no guarantee that the peaceful protests of groups called enemy by the government parties will not be banned, citing false child protection.
🫶 As members of the LGBTQ community, it is part of our lives since we were children to protect themselves, to fight for acceptance and equal rights. Although those in power try to dehumanize us, we LGBTQ people are all human who want to live free, safe, with equal rights. One of the most spectacular parts of this struggle is the Pride Parade, but the resistance that we do every day to live free, self-identified and happy in our own country has the same weight.
No democratic leader would even think of limiting the fundamental rights of those who disagree with him. Elected representatives must work not for their selfish interests but for the sake of all citizens.
We ask Viktor Orbán’s government to account: how will they guarantee that all Hungarian citizens, including LGBTQ persons, can live freely and protest freely? If they cannot ensure this, it is an admission of their own incompetence.
The group then started organizing protests, and announced, “🌈Those living in Vienna and near Vienna! ✊ Vienna Pride will organize a solidarity demonstration in front of the Hungarian Embassy in Vienna on Thursday, March 20, from 19 o’clock. 🫶 Let’s show that we are here and will always be here! We don’t give our freedoms away! Let’s stand up for ourselves and for each other, for the right of every Hungarian to assemble!”
Liberal politicians of the Momentum Movement (MOMO) party in Hungary also joined in the protest, setting off smoke bombs inside the Hungarian parliament.
