President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have emphatically denied an outlandish report by the New York Times which claimed that Elon Musk would be briefed about a potential war with China.

The New York Times wildly claimed in a report on Thursday:

The Pentagon was scheduled on Friday to brief Elon Musk on the U.S. military’s plan for any war that might break out with China, two U.S. officials said on Thursday.

Another official said the briefing would be China focused, without providing additional details. A fourth official confirmed Mr. Musk was to be at the Pentagon on Friday, but offered no details.

President Trump lambasted the New York Times late Thursday night in a Truth Social post. He wrote:

“Elon Musk will be briefed by the Pentagon about the USA’s top secret plans against China should there be a War,” according to the Failing New York Times, one of the worst and most purposely inaccurate newspapers anywhere in the World.

Their FAKE concept for this story is that because Elon does some business in China, that he is very conflicted and would immediately go to top Chinese officials and “spill the beans.” RATINGS CHALLENGED FAKE NEWS CNN immediately picked up on this absolutely ridiculous and false story, which is probably libelous, and went heavy with it. Fortunately, nobody was watching!

Maggot Hagerman, the really dumb “scammer” who constantly writes about me for the Times, using anonymous, made up (nonexistent!) sources, and who I haven’t spoken to in ages, is a big part of the Scam. She lead the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, only to realize that she was duped and got it wrong. She owes me a totally discredited Pulitzer Prize for her bad reporting.

The Fake News is the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE…And Elon is NOT BEING BRIEFED ON ANYTHING CHINA BY THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR!!!

Hegseth also responded to the report late Thursday night, writing, “We look forward to welcoming @elonmusk to the Pentagon tomorrow. But the fake news delivers again — this is NOT a meeting about “top secret China war plans.” It’s an informal meeting about innovation, efficiencies & smarter production. Gonna be great!”

Elon Musk chimed in, “Exactly. Also, I’ve been to the Pentagon many times over many years. Not my first time in the building.”

President Trump again slammed the report as completely false while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office Friday morning, and said they all just laughed about it, it was so absurd.

On whether he would share military plans for a possible war with China, Trump said, “I don’t want to show it to anybody. You know, you’re talking about a potential war with China. We don’t want to have a potential war with China, but I can tell you if we did, we’re very well-equipped to handle it… but I don’t want to show that to anybody… certainly, you wouldn’t show it to a businessman who is helping us so much.”

“He’s a great patriot. He’s paying a big price for helping us cut costs, and he’s doing a great job. He’s finding tremendous waste, fraud, and abuse. But I certainly wouldn’t want, you know, Elon has businesses in China, and he would be susceptible, perhaps, to that, but it was such a fake story,” Trump continued.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell also blasted the New York Times for the false claims, declaring, “There should be accountability for liars! Especially within the media. The NYT is a propaganda machine that should IMMEDIATELY retract their lies! The days of the Pentagon just allowing these fake narratives to spread is over.”

Hegseth wrote in another post, “Sean is, again, correct with this absolute master class pushback against media lies. The NYT should immediately retract this fake narrative.”

In the Oval Office, Hegseth told reporters, “Elon Musk is a patriot. Elon Musk is an innovator. Elon Musk provides a lot of capabilities our government and our military rely on, and I’m grateful for that.”

“We welcomed him today to the Pentagon to talk about DOGE, efficiencies, innovation. It was a great informal conversation. That reporting was fake – there was no Chinese war plans, no secret plans. That’s not what we’re doing,” he added.

Hegseth later posted a video on X which includes footage of Musk’s visit at the Pentagon Friday morning.

CNN’s Natasha Bertand posted a video, along with her take on Musk’s visit to the Pentagon.  Despite the emphatic denials of the New York Times’ report, Bertrand is heard brazenly asking, “Mr. Musk, did you get a classified briefing?  Was the briefing about China?”  They ignored her.

Bertrand wrote:

Elon Musk exited Secretary of Defense Hegseth’s office in the Pentagon at 10:21 on Friday morning. Asked by CNN how the meeting went, Musk responded, “It’s always a great meeting.” He then commented, “I’ve been here before you know,” as he and Hegseth laughed and walked down the stairs to the building’s entrance.

Outside the Pentagon, Musk and Hegseth shook hands as Musk told him, “If there’s anything I can do to be helpful, I’d like to see you.”

Neither Hegseth nor Musk answered shouted questions about whether they discussed China in their meeting or if it was a classified briefing.

Asked by the New York Times after Musk’s departure what the two discussed, Hegseth said, “Why would I tell you?” And walked inside.

The New York Times has not deleted their report, which was originally titled, ” Musk set to get access tomorrow on top-secret US plan for potential war with China.”

The title was later edited to read, “Pentagon Set Up Briefing for Musk on Potential War With China,” which is still a completely false claim, according to Trump and Hegseth.

The Times did update their report to include the denials by Trump and Hegseth.

New York Times writer Maggie Haberman published a new report Friday afternoon, only saying that President Trump said Musk should not be given access to top-secret plans on a potential conflict with China.

She then defiantly claimed that the “top-secret briefing” with Musk was called off after her report. Haberman cited three “U.S. officials,” and “a person with knowledge of the matter” for her report.   She did not identify who is feeding her the information.

Haberman wrote:

Instead, Mr. Musk, who has extensive business interests in China, met with Mr. Hegseth and Admiral Grady in the defense secretary’s office.

It was unclear how the planned briefing came about and whether Mr. Musk was aware of the extent of information he was set to be shown.

Mr. Musk ultimately spent more than an hour with Mr. Hegseth, a remarkable amount of one-on-one exposure for an executive whose company has contracts with the Defense Department.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk wants to know who the leakers are who are spreading false information to the media.

“The New York Times is pure propaganda. Also, I look forward to the prosecutions of those at the Pentagon who are leaking maliciously false information to NYT. They will be found,” he wrote.
