From Fox News: House lawmakers have voted to censure Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, after he was thrown out of President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.

Ten Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the measure. Green himself voted “present.”

Republicans raced to introduce competing resolutions to censure Green on Wednesday, with three separate texts being drafted within hours of each other.

Although being censured is a formal way for the House to express disapproval of a member’s conduct, a censured member does not lose any rights or privileges as a House member, explained NBC News.

The vote to censure Green passed 224 to 198, with two voting ‘present.’

The ten Democrats who joined Republicans in voting to censure Green were:

Ami Bera, D-Calif.
Ed Case, D-Hawaii
Jim Costa, D-Calif.
Laura Gillen, D-N.Y.
Jim Himes, D-Conn.
Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa.
Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio
Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla.
Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash.
Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y.

Speaker Johnson ordered Green to present himself in the House well to be censured. But then, Democrats responded to the process of censuring Green for disrupting Trump’s speech… by disrupting the House business once again.

Green stood in the center, defiantly holding up his cane, as the Democrats gathered around him and started singing “We Shall Overcome.”

Speaker Johnson declared that the House would come to order, but they refused to stop singing, so he called the House into recess in response.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson released the following statement earlier Thursday morning:

Rep. Al Green’s shameful and egregious behavior during President Trump’s Joint Address disgraced the institution of Congress and the constituents he serves. Despite my repeated warnings, he refused to cease his antics and I was forced to remove him from the chamber.

He deliberately violated House rules, and an expeditious vote of censure is an appropriate remedy. Any Democrat who is concerned about regaining the trust and respect of the American people should join House Republicans in this effort.
