From the Washington ExaminerThe Supreme Court has temporarily blocked a lower court order that told the Trump administration to release nearly $2 billion in foreign aid payments by midnight on Wednesday in the dispute over its hold on U.S. Agency for International Development funds.

The Justice Department in an emergency filing contended that the administration needs more time to review outstanding payments for fraud and abuse and warned that complying with the rushed timeline could lead to irreversible financial harm. Without issuing comment about the merits of the case, the Supreme Court told parties to file additional responses to their chambers by Friday, according to a brief order by Chief Justice John Roberts.

“The order does not limit its abrupt deadline to respondents’ own invoices or letters of credit, instead apparently compelling the government to pay requests from any organization that has asked for such funds,” acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris wrote.

The dispute stems from a lawsuit filed by aid groups and contractors challenging Trump’s executive order that froze foreign aid disbursements for a 90-day review. U.S. District Judge Amir Ali, an appointee of President Donald Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, had previously ruled that the freeze was unlawful and issued a temporary restraining order in February requiring the government to lift it. However, the plaintiffs claim they still have not been paid.

Judge Amir Ali, 40, was born in Canada. He was nominated by Joe Biden in February 2024, to fill a seat vacated by Judge Beryl Howell, who assumed senior status.

Ali was one of the group of radical judges that Democrats rushed to confirm in November, ahead of President Trump’s inauguration. Ali was confirmed on November 20, and assumed office on November 22, 2024, becoming the first Muslim and Arab American federal judge to serve in D.C. Former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema had voted against him.

For now, the Supreme Court has overruled Ali.

Meanwhile, journalist Laura Loomer has uncovered a serious concern about Judge Ali. She wrote:

Did you know that DC Judge Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali, the judge who ordered the Trump administration to temporarily lift the funding freeze on U.S. aid abroad has only been a US Citizen since 2019, and he’s a DUAL CITIZEN WITH CANADA?

Serious question. Given that Muslims subscribe to the Quran, which outlines Islamic law, how do we have 1. Muslim judges and 2. Judges who are DUAL CITIZENS? How can you be a dual citizen and also be overseeing US law? We need to ban dual citizenship for all office holders.

“How does someone become a US FEDERAL JUDGE ONLY 5 YEARS AFTER BECOMING A US CITIZEN??” Loomer wrote in another post.

Progressive Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (Tex.) is already in a rage.

“Trump will to BREAK the law & beg the Supreme Court for help—in order to save a buck over comply with the law and save countless lives!” she claimed.
