Independent journalist Catherine Herridge released an exclusive interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio this week.

The interview discusses multiple issues Rubio is addressing during his first 30 days in office. The video has gone viral, with over 6.5 million views in its first 48 hours.

Toward the end of the interview, Rubio said he will be opening the State Department briefing room to independent journalists.

“We can’t allow our message to solely be provided through the filter of legacy, traditional media outlets…their readership is down, their viewership is down, their ratings are down.  I have – we have to take our message where people are getting their news and information,” he said.

Rubio weighed in on the controversy with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and said he doesn’t blame President Trump for being upset with Zelenskyy.

“JD Vance and I sat down with Zelensky and he left the meeting and started lying about what transpired,” he said.

Vice President Vance responded on X, “What Secretary Rubio is saying here is exactly right.”

Herridge shared a list of all topics they discussed, and the time-stamp for each topic. She wrote:

Restarting U.S./Russia relations following the Biden Administration, direct engagement with Ukraine, U.S. proposal for Gaza, preventing Iranian nuclear weapons, China, Canada, and the emerging role of independent media.

In a social media post, Rubio shared a clip from the interview and wrote, “The last 30 days serving as Secretary has reconfirmed my view that there’s a lot of work to be done to realign the State Department’s work with America’s national interest. Our foreign policy needs to be about first defining what our national interest is and then ensuring everything we do, every dollar we spend, every program we operate, and every word we say is in furtherance of the national interest.”
