After multiple former January 6 prisoners were kicked out of the CPAC conference this week, the group gathered near the U.S. Capitol on Friday for a press conference.
After the press conference, Enrique Tarrio, the former national chairman of the Proud Boys, was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police.
The Hill reported: A spokesperson for USCP said Tarrio was arrested for simple assault, after a counter protester put a cell phone close to his face and he struck her phone and arm in response.
The counter protester said she wanted to file charges, so Tarrio was arrested. The incident took place between the U.S. Capitol and Washington’s Union Station.
“This is absolutely insane,” Proud Boy Joe Biggs told The Hill in a text, claiming local police let “agitators” into their path. “Tarrio did nothing wrong. This is a set-up.”
The very first executive order President Trump signed when he returned to the Oval Office after his inauguration on January 20 was a pardon for 1,500 people who had been prosecuted for their participation in the January 6, 2021 protest at the U.S. Capitol. The order required the immediate release of about 200 people who were still being held in prison.
But when several former January 6ers tried to attend CPAC, they were kicked out, prompting outrage from many conservatives.
Richard Barnett announced in one post on X Friday, “I just did a huge presser with Steve Bannon war Room, Real America’s Voice. Pic is my J6ers with Steve. Interview video to come. On our way to the Capital.”

The group then went to the Capitol and held their press conference. During their press conference near the Capitol on Friday, Tarrio and others announced they will be filing lawsuits against the Justice Department over their prosecutions tied to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protest event.

When a leftist woman stuck a phone in Tarrio’s face after the press conference, he reportedly knocked it to the ground. For that, he was arrested.
Philip Anderson explained, “An Antifa woman was harrasing J6er Enrique Tarrio for over an hour. She screamed in his ear with a microphone and touched him without consent. The police chose to wrongfully arrest Enrique Tarrio instead of the trouble maker.”
Jake Lang shared a video of Tarrio being arrested, and wrote, “INSANITY. Founder of the Proud Boys – ENRIQUE TARRIO is being arrested outside the United States Capitol!!! We held a peaceful press conference to announce our MASSIVE Lawsuits against the DOJ 😳 Enrique was harassed & taken away in handcuffs by USCP thugs!!!!”

Capitol Police handcuffed Tarrio, marched him away and loaded him up in a police van.
