Psalm 79:9

Help us, God our Savior,
for the glory of your name;
deliver us and forgive our sins
for your name’s sake.

[New International Version]

This verse is a plea for God’s mercy and intervention during great distress.

The psalmist calls on God as the Savior, recognizing that only He can provide true deliverance. The request for help is not just for personal relief but for the glory of God’s name, emphasizing His reputation and power among all.

The verse also seeks forgiveness, acknowledging sin is a barrier to divine aid and restoration. It embodies the idea that God’s actions—both in saving and forgiving—are tied to His character and the honor of His name.
