The tables are turning on Katherine Long, the Wall Street Journal reporter who wrote a hit piece on a DOGE staffer working at the Treasury Department, then cheered that he had resigned after she drug up some of his old social media posts from the past.

Marko Elez is one of the two DOGE staff members who had been allowed to remain accessing the spending data at the U.S. Treasury. After Long published her hit piece Thursday, revealing some “racist” social media posts by Elez last year, he then resigned from DOGE.

Long’s post and Elez’s resignation prompted outrage from conservatives, who have pointed out that Long previously worked for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)… the very agency which DOGE has exposed for wasting billions in taxpayer dollars.

As a result of the waste, fraud and abuse uncovered, the Trump administration has now slashed the agency’s staff from over 10,000 employees to just under 300.

Breitbart explained:

Long, who displays “she/her” pronouns on a LinkedIn profile, targeted DOGE after it began the audit of USAID. According to that LinkedIn profile, she previously worked for USAID as an intern in 2016 after a similar stint at the State Department. In a recent interview with the PR firm Fearey, Long said her job at USAID was “managing USAID projects in Central Asia.”

Many conservatives are calling for Musk to re-hire Elez and put him back to work, and he has indicated he will do just that.

Musk posted a poll and asked, “Bring back @DOGE staffer who made inappropriate statements via a now deleted pseudonym?”

A full 78% responded that the staffer should be brought back.

Vice President JD Vance released the following statement:

“Here’s my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s posts, but I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life. We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever. So I say bring him back. If he’s a bad dude or a terrible member of the team, fire him for that.”

Musk replied, “🫡 He will be brought back. To err is human, to forgive divine.”

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy then asked President Trump about the DOGE staffer, noting that Vance had said ‘bring him back.’

Trump said he wasn’t aware of the details, but if the vice president said to bring him back, he is in support of that.

Katherine Long gloated that she got Elez to resign. Sharing a link to her report, she wrote:

“I linked DOGE staffer Marko Elez to a deleted X account that advocated repealing the Civil Rights Act, backed a “eugenic immigration policy,” and wrote, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity. He just resigned.

“This is a good time to note that I started at the Wall Street Journal last week! If you work with or around DOGE, I’d love to speak with you. My email address is [email protected] and I’m on Signal at longka.38. Use a non-work device to contact me.”
