From Fox News: President Donald Trump scored a significant legal win Monday in his lawsuit against the members of the Pulitzer Prize Board, paving the way towards the discovery phase in their courtroom battle.
Last week, the board members filed a motion for Protective Order Governing Discovery in hopes of shielding their internal communications involving the decision to award The New York Times and The Washington Post a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting on Russiagate during Trump’s first term in office.
Judge Robert L. Pegg of the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in Okeechobee County, Florida, stuck down their motion.
Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against the Pulitzer Prize Board in 2022,
after they awarded prizes in 2018 to the Times and Post for their coverage of alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, which was later completely debunked.
Trump attorney Quincy Bird released the following statement:
“President Trump is committed to holding those who traffic in deception and fake news to account. The defendants, hiding behind the once-prestigious Pulitzer Prizes, attempted to resurrect a left-wing hoax by giving, as well as continuing to stand by and republishing, its disgraced award to the organizations that drove the infamous ‘Russia Russia Russia’ hoax.”
“This was a defamatory scam designed to damage President Trump’s image and presidential campaign. After today’s win in court, this case will now proceed to a very thorough discovery process and President Trump
is committed to seeing this case through to a just conclusion.”
Trump has repeatedly blasted the Pulitzer Prize Board over the years for awarding prizes for a hoax story, and has called for the prizes to be revoked.
In March 2019, Trump wrote, “So funny that The New York Times & The Washington Post got a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage (100% NEGATIVE and FAKE!) of Collusion with Russia – And there was No Collusion! So, they were either duped or corrupt? In any event, their prizes should be taken away by the Committee!”

In May 2020, Trump wrote, “When are the Fake Journalists, who received unwarranted Pulitzer Prizes for Russia, Russia, Russia, and the Impeachment Scam, going to turn in their tarnished awards so they can be given to the real journalists who got it right. I’ll give you the names, there are plenty of them!”

In July 2022, Trump said in a statement to Fox News, “The Pulitzer Board has taken away any shred of credibility it had left with its ‘response’ regarding the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting, which was awarded to The New York Times and The Washington Post for blatant fake news.”
“Instead of acting with integrity and providing transparency, the Pulitzer Board is running cover for the biggest reporting failure in modern history: the fake Russia Russia Russia collusion hoax. Why would The Washington Post or The New York Times ever want to admit their obvious mistakes and come clean when their false reporting is being guarded, and awarded, by the Pulitzer Prize, which at one point actually meant something? These outlets should hand back their prizes without notification from Pulitzer, which would be the honorable thing to do,” Trump continued.
“The only way The New York Times and The Washington Post should get a possible Pulitzer Prize would be in a new category—disinformation, for helping to perpetrate a false story created and peddled by Crooked Hillary Clinton, the DNC, and certain lowlife Democrats.”
