The White House Press Briefing room is no longer closed to conservatives and independent journalists, announced President Trump’s new press secretary, Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday.
In her very first press briefing, Leavitt, 27, the youngest White House press secretary in U.S. history, handled it like a pro, and announced that major changes will now be made, including that mainstream media no longer has the monopoly on the White House briefings.
“The Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities… not just the legacy media who are seated in this room,” Leavitt announced, as she pointed to a Gallup poll that says Americans’ trust in mass media has fallen to a record low.
“Millions of Americans, especially young people, have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers, to consume their news from podcasts, blogs, social media and other independent outlets,” she noted.
Leavitt also announced that they will restore the press passes of the 440 journalists whose passes were wrongly revoked by the Biden administration.
“We’re also opening up this briefing room media voices who produce news-related content and whose outlet is not already represented by one of the seats in this room, “Leavitt announced. “We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers and content creators to apply for credentials to cover this White House.”
She said anyone can apply on a new website: WhiteHouse.gov/newmedia.
Starting today, a seat at the front of the room which is usually occupied by the press secretary’s staff, will be called the “New Media Seat.” Leavitt said her team will review the applications and give credentials to new media applications who meet their criteria and pass U.S. Secret Service requirements to enter the White House complex.
“Our first questions for today’s briefing will go to these new media members whose outlets, despite being some of the most viewed news websites in the country, have not [previously] been given seats in this room,” she said.

In a fierce warning to the leftist media, Leavitt said, “We know for a fact that there have been lies that have been pushed by many legacy media outlets in this country about this president, about his family… and we will not accept that. We will call you out when we feel that your reporting is wrong or there is misinformation about this White House. I will hold myself to the truth β and I expect everyone in this room to do the same.β
