Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th president on Monday, marking a historic return as only the second president to serve non-consecutive terms.
Dressed in a symbolic purple tie to signify nonpartisanship, Trump took the oath in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. In his widely praised inaugural speech, he proclaimed the start of America’s “Golden Age,” pledging to restore the nation’s greatness with a focus on America First policies, energy independence, and a crackdown on illegal immigration.
Trump outlined bold plans, including ending the “weaponization” of the justice system, classifying drug cartels as terrorist groups, and expanding space exploration with a mission to Mars. He also proposed limiting gender recognition to only two genders and dismantling diversity initiatives.
The speech included sharp criticism of the Biden administration as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris sat nearby. Trump also recounted surviving the assassination attempt during his campaign stop in Butler, PA. Concluding with a call for unity, he highlighted the broad support he’s received from Americans of all backgrounds.
