On the day President Donald Trump was inaugurated and issued a number of executive orders aimed at ending illegal immigration, a Border Patrol agent was shot and killed during a ‘traffic stop.’

From the Washington Examiner: A Border Patrol agent stationed in Vermont was killed after being shot during an encounter with an individual near the Canadian border, according to a news report.

The federal law enforcement agent was killed while conducting a traffic stop near Interstate 91 near the northern border Monday, just as President Donald Trump proceeded through inauguration proceedings in Washington, according to local media outlet WCAX3.

The incident occurred between Orleans and Newport, north of the city of Burlington.

The agent has not been identified, nor have the identities of the shooter or second person who was reportedly also on scene though they were reported to be illegally present in the United States.

WCAX3 also reported that one of the suspects was also killed and another suspect was wounded.  The Border Patrol agent who was killed was reportedly shot in the neck.

According to News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley, the individual who shot the Border Patrol agent was a “visa overstay.”  (Fox News later confirmed that the suspect was a German national in the US on a current visa.)

The other suspect, a woman, was injured, and her immigration status is still unknown.

“Sources tell me the agent was in his mid 40s and recently transferred from Texas to Vermont,” Bradley added.
