From the Wall Street Journal: President-elect Donald Trump is planning to visit fire-ravaged Los Angeles as soon as next week to view the damage and assess recovery needs, according to people familiar with his plans.

The exact timing of the visit remains in flux, but Trump’s advisers are tentatively considering a trip to the city late next week, following Monday’s inauguration, the people said. Trump’s team is aware that a presidential visit involves a large footprint and his advisers want to make sure his presence won’t disrupt efforts to fight the wildfires.

Trump’s response to the fires will be an early test of his presidency. The city’s recovery will require close coordination between federal, state and local officials. The fires, which have ravaged the region for more than a week and led to 24 deaths, could prove to be one of the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history.

Newsom has publicly clashed with Trump multiple times over the years and has gotten state lawmakers to set aside $50 million in taxpayer money for legal defense funds to fight against the incoming Trump administration’s policies.

Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly warned that Newsom is not doing enough to properly manage the forests, in order to prevent the wildfires.
