From the Washington Examiner: Vice President-elect J.D. Vance has announced he is resigning from his Senate seat at midnight on Friday, leaving him roughly six more hours in the upper chamber.
Vance penned a letter to Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) announcing his move, adding that it has been a “tremendous honor and privilege to serve the people of Ohio in the Senate over the past two years.”
Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the upper chamber. Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted (R-OH) is expected to be appointed by DeWine as the next senator from Ohio.
Vance will become one of the youngest vice presidents ever at 40 years old and Usha Vance will be the first Indian American and Hindu second lady.
Below is Vance’s resignation letter, to be effective Friday, January 10.

Jim Justice, the outgoing Republican governor of West Virginia, is set to be sworn into the U.S. Senate in a few days. He won the seat vacated by former Sen. Joe Manchin, who did not run for reelection. However, Justice is remaining as governor until his success is sworn in on January 13.
Fox News reporter Chad Pergram explained: “Vance to resign as senator tonight. This will take Senate GOPers down to 51 members for the time being as GOP Sen-elect Justice has still not been sworn-in.
“By contrast, Harris, then a senator from CA, did not resign until January 18, 2021, before assuming the Vice Presidency on January 20, 2021.”
