From the Daily Caller: The president of a group known for its outspoken support for the implementation of New York’s congestion pricing was allegedly attacked at a subway station Saturday.
Layla Law-Gisiko, the president of the City Club of New York, said on X she was attacked at a Manhattan subway station around 3:30 p.m. Law-Gisiko said a person with a shopping cart screamed at her and spit in her hair.
New York City’s congestion pricing program went into effect the day after Law-Gisiko was attacked. The program uses tolls and charges those driving into the city a fee whenever “their vehicles enter what’s called the Congestion Relief Zone, measured as the local streets and avenues south of 60th Street in Manhattan,” according to Car and Driver.
Now Law-Gisiko just found out why many people prefer to drive, as they are afraid to take the subway.
She detailed her experience in a series of posts on X.
Today at around 3:30 PM, I entered the subway station at 23rd Street and 5th Avenue. At the bottom of the first flight of stairs, an individual with a shopping cart began screaming at me and spat in my hair.

The individual followed me into the mezzanine corridor, struck me with the cart, and caused me to hit the wall. He threatened to push me down the next flight of stairs.
A group of passengers witnessed the assault. I retreated toward the exit while the individual continued down the stairs. A bystander kindly stayed with me as I called 911 to report the attack.

About 25 minutes later, four police officers arrived. After taking my statement, they went into the station, found the individual, and asked me to identify him. Police officers proceeded with arrest.
The officers left the scene without further comment. I am shaken, with a bruised ankle and a sore shoulder from being pushed into the wall. This has been a distressing and painful experience.

According to the New York Post, police arrested the attacker, but he has already been turned loose:
Police said Timothy Elliot, 45, was nabbbed at the station and charged with assault and harassment. He was released on a desk appearance ticket, cops said.
X user Sam Berninger popped up an old tweet from Law-Gisiko in which she wrote, “Congestion pricing countdown: Hochul’s lawyers make no case for her delaying the toll program.”
“This you?” Berninger asked.

“Hopefully this woke you up and you will now vote differently!” one X user commented.

Another person scolded, “What are you upset about? You voted for this. You cheered for it. This is what was always going to happen.
And now, any potential Good Samaritans are going to think of Daniel Penny and stop themselves. You’re alone in NY and you have only you to blame for it.”

“I’m sorry this happened to you. I left NY in part due to this sort of thing. I hope the next time you vote you seriously consider whichever candidate supports public order, especially going back to cash bail and dealing with the homeless crisis. We don’t have this problem in Miami and it’s not because we’re lucky. The political system here simply doesn’t tolerate it,” another X user wrote.
