From NBC Los Angeles: Human remains were found Wednesday night in a Malibu home destroyed by the Palisades Fire burning near the Los Angeles County coast.

A missing persons report led authorities to conduct a welfare check at the home near Pacific Coast Highway and Las Flores Canyon Road.

Details about the person’s identity and a cause of death were not immediately available. Sheriff’s deputies were at the residence, located south of Duke’s restaurant, where only a brick chimney was left standing. A burned station wagon was at the property.

This is the first confirmed fatality from the Palisades Fire. Five other deaths have been reported from the Eaton Fire.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin announced, “The LA County Sheriff’s Department confirms human remains have been found in a burned down home along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Remains were found as a result of a wellness check. First confirmed fatality of the #PalisadesFire.”

Journalist Gigi Graciette wrote, “LA County Sheriff’s Dept has received a report of a 4th location where possible human remains have been found in connection with #PalisadesFire. Meanwhile, the Medical Examiner is picking up remains they believe are of homeowner who died in their Malibu home.”
