From The Hill: House Republicans are eyeing a new spending proposal that would tee up votes on three separate measures: to fund the government, appropriate disaster relief and allocate farm assistance, three sources told The Hill.

But in a shift from previous strategy — and in a break from President-elect Trump’s request — the new plan does not include a measure to increase the debt ceiling, the sources said, a move that could spark the ire of the incoming president, who demanded that such language be included.

Instead, Republicans are working towards an agreement to cut trillions of dollars in spending in exchange for an increase in the borrowing limit next year under reconciliation, the sources said.

According to sources, the proposal is expected to be presented to the entire Republican conference around 12:30 pm, so the deal is not yet set in stone. They are planning on three separate bills:

  • Clean ‘CR’ bill to fund the government until March
  • Disaster relief bill
  • Farm bill

This is similar to what Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) had pitched to Republican leaders Thursday night.

The shutdown deadline is Friday night at midnight.

Thursday night, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) dropped a bombshell, saying Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, Mike Johnson and Hakeem Jeffries secretly cooked up the massive and now-trashed spending bill over the past 85 days, intending to slip it through before the holidays.

Sen. Lee called for either Elon Musk or Vivek Ramaswamy to be Speaker of the House.

In a post on social media, Lee declared, “The offenders here are those who write 1,500-page spending bills in secret & spring them on their colleagues days before Christmas with no time to debate or even read them And then they accuse anyone who cries foul of trying to cause a government shutdown!”
