From the Washington Examiner: House Republican leaders have pulled a three-month government funding package from consideration amid mounting opposition from President-elect Donald Trump and members of the GOP conference.

It’s unclear what a new deal to fund the government ahead of the Friday night shutdown deadline will look like, but Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told reporters on Wednesday night the deal was “dead” and that lawmakers were “looking at a number of options” as a path forward.

The reversal comes just over 24 hours after the continuing resolution was released, resulting in widespread outrage among Republicans in both the House and Senate. The House was expected to vote on the bill as early as Wednesday, but those plans were quickly scrapped after GOP leaders failed to whip enough support among the conference as rank-and-file members raged over additional spending items that were tacked on to the must-pass bill.

Reporters approached Scalise Wednesday night, and he confirmed the bill was no longer being considered.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have been selected by Trump to lead the new DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) agency, led the charge in urging Republicans NOT to vote for the massive pork-filled bill. Then Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance drove the final nail in the coffin by releasing a joint statement opposing the bill.

Vance, still a U.S. Senator, had also joined the discussions and was approached by reporters as he walked through the Capitol building Wednesday night.

“We had a productive conversation. I’m not gonna say anything else more about it tonight because we’re in the middle of these negotiations but I think we’ll be able to solve some problems here and we’ll keep working on it,” he said, refusing to divulge any further details.

Democrats are throwing a tantrum that the bill with all their wild spending items has been thrown out.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries fumed, “House Republicans have been ordered to shut down the government. And hurt the working class Americans they claim to support. You break the bipartisan agreement, you own the consequences that follow.”

“Just to be clear. House Democrats will never be bullied or intimidated by far right extremism, no matter who comes to power. We will always do what’s right for the American people,” Jeffries claimed.

Elon Musk fired back at Jeffries, writing, “You seem to think the public is dumb. They are not.”

Chris Murphy (D-CT) whined, “Why do the billionaires – Musk, Ramaswamy, Trump – want to shut down the government for Christmas? Because they still get paid. It’s our troops, TSA agents and other federal workers who won’t get paid. It’s their kids who will suffer this Christmas.”

Vivek Ramaswamy fired back, “The failed CR billed tried to sneak in salary increases & health benefits for Congressmen & Senators, while they were blowing hard-earned taxpayer $$ on special interests. We can disagree on policy @ChrisMurphyCT, but don’t use our troops as a smokescreen for your own salary hike.”

Republican Rep. Andy Barr of Kentucky said in a statement, “The phone was ringing off the hook today. And you know why? Because they were reading the tweets, the X from Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, and they were telling me that they were, that they were listening to them… this shows the influence that president, Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have in this process before they’re even in office. The American people elected Donald Trump, and the American people want us to pay attention to that election and that election results, and so we’ve got to work. This is an important lesson for the the new unified Republican majority, that we have to work…”

Elon Musk responded, “The voice of the people was heard. This was a good day for America.”

Conservative X user ‘Farzad’ wrote, “I’m pretty sure this is what “Drain the Swamp” is actually supposed to feel like. The chaos is just getting started folks!”

“Yes,” replied Musk.

Musk celebrated, “Your elected representatives have heard you and now the terrible bill is dead. The voice of the people has triumphed!”

Trump assistant Dan Scavino cheered the bill’s demise, writing, “I don’t think I can say it enough—WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!🇺🇸🦅.”

Podcaster Alec Lace quipped, “If you’re mad because Elon Musk helped stop the government from overspending today, just wait until Tom Homan starts drop kicking illegals back over the border on Day One.”

Ramaswamy had announced earlier on Wednesday, “Real-time advice to Congress: go back to the drawing board, start with a blank slate & do this the right way. There’s still time for forgiveness.”

Trump blasted out the following statements on Truth Social Wednesday evening:

Sounds like the ridiculous and extraordinarily expensive Continuing Resolution, PLUS, is dying fast, but can anyone imagine passing it without either terminating, or extending, the Debt Ceiling guillotine coming up in June? Unless the Democrats terminate or substantially extend Debt Ceiling now, I will fight ‘till the end.

This is a nasty TRAP set in place by the Radical Left Democrats! They are looking to embarrass us in June when it comes up for a Vote. The people that extended it, from September 28th to June 1st, should be ashamed of themselves. It was political malpractice!

Also, the Communist Global Engagement Center, a project of Crooked Hillary Clinton, should not in any way, shape, or form be extended and, the shielding of the very corrupt J6 Unselect Committee of Political Losers and Thugs would be suicidal for any Republican approving it. Likewise, this is not a good time for Congress to be asking for pay increases. Hopefully, you’ll be entitled to such an increase in the near future when we, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

If Republicans try to pass a clean Continuing Resolution without all of the Democrat “bells and whistles” that will be so destructive to our Country, all it will do, after January 20th, is bring the mess of the Debt Limit into the Trump Administration, rather than allowing it to take place in the Biden Administration.

Any Republican that would be so stupid as to do this should, and will, be Primaried. Everything should be done, and fully negotiated, prior to my taking Office on January 20th, 2025.
